Meet Maite, a strong, independent woman. Or at least she claims to be. Of all my siblings, people automatically assume I am closest to her. Physically, we look alike. Complete strangers have approached us separately asking if we're related. If it weren't for her big(ger) boobs, less hairy legs & wide hips, we can totally switch places & try to reconnect our estranged parents. Luckily, we never had to, of course. Apart from how we look, we both share a love for life, laughter and food. Whether its sharing a meal at Robuchon or gorging on Binagoongan Baboy, we always have fun.
Last February 11, 2012, Ma. Theresa (Maite) Medina Alvarez added Genabe to her name. Having been engaged during our trip to France & Spain less than a year ago, the wedding itself was very European. Paco Park is reminiscent of the pueblos of Cantabria, while Casino Español, to quote her, has "a very Seville vibe". For most weddings, the fun & cheers start after the priest's pronouncement of the newlyweds. Not this one. The attempt to be solemn flew out the window when my sister stepped out of her bridal car with her veil up. With a few panicked people telling her to put her veil down & walk slowly, she reacted as only she could have - with a calm confidence and great sense of humor.
The fun continued throughout the wedding & reception; a singing priest, an awesome soundtrack (featuring artists like U2, Coldplay, & an original song from the groom himself), 10 different kinds of chocolate, an open bar with Tequila pushers, and of course, delicious food. All that plus a family of singers & dancers made the night truly memorable. Much like the opening & closing scenes of my favorite romantic comedy movie, love, actually, was all around.
If the wedding is any indication of the life Maite and Drach will have together, then the future will be full of fun & surprises.
